Playing a Monster
Anyone is welcome to come and play on the ‘monster crew’ for the night, should you be an already established player who doesn’t feel like playing or a new player who wants to know more about how the game works prior to creating a character.
As a member of the ‘monster crew’ it is your job to help act out the roles of everyone and everything the players meet over the course of the adventure for that session. You help create the world in which they are playing.
We have several different ranks in the monster crew.
As a monster you will be required to bring the following kit with you:

As a member of the ‘monster crew’ it is your job to help act out the roles of everyone and everything the players meet over the course of the adventure for that session. You help create the world in which they are playing.
We have several different ranks in the monster crew.
- Refs - The refs are in charge of the game and on the evening one ref will be in charge of the monster crew, while the other will spend their time accompanying the players.
- Permanent monster crew/NPCs - people who do not wish to play Player Characters are more than welcome to come and be permanent monster crew. this means you will be allowed access into the monster crew forums and learn more about the over-arcing plot. BEWARE though, once you have taken the red pill you cannot go back. We don’t feel it’s fair for any players to have an advantage knowing the forthcoming plot therefore if you decide to join the monster crew permanently we can no longer allow you to play a character.
- Temporary Monster Crew - This does what it says on the tin. You come along and monster for the night. no strings attached, you will find out about what's going on plot-wise on the night but no more, this means you can then go on to be a Player Character at future events.
As a monster you will be required to bring the following kit with you:
- Black clothing - please wear a black top and pair of trousers you can move about in easily, as you will be required to participate in combat with the players.
The following kit is optional:
- Nerf guns/LARP safe weapons - if you have any particular nerf guns or larp safe weapons you wish to use, please feel free to bring them along and we will try to make sure you have an opportunity to use them on the night. However the group kit will contain spare weapons for you to use if you have none.
All monsters are required to:
- Read and be familiar with the combat safety rules, these can be found here.
- Read and be familiar with the following monster rules
- Please inform a ref prior to the event beginning if you have any medical conditions or allergies we should be aware of. If you are unable to participate in combat this is not a problem, as we will have non-combat roles available for monsters too.
- Don't target player characters with the aim to kill them, it is not your job to deliberately kill the player characters unless told to by a ref
- Take your hits honestly, please don't cheat, if you enter combat the idea is to put up a good fight but unless the player characters make stupid decisions you should wind up on zero total body.
- When you are on zero total body please stumble to the side out of the way of combat and lay there unconscious from your wounds until the players revive you or the monster ref thanks the monsters and frees you to move on to the next encounter.
- Don't hang around after an encounter has concluded, please report back to the monster ref in order to move onto the next encounter.
- Please help to set up and clear up the encounters and monster kit, don't leave it to everyone else.
- While we don't mind monsters watching if you are not in a particular encounter, please stay to the side out of the way with your hand in the air so player characters don't mistake you as part of the encounter.
- Please act the role you have been given, don't change it to suit yourself, as the plot has been carefully written and even a minor change could disrupt carefuly laid plans further down the line.
- NEVER argue with the monster ref or player ref.
